Police constable gets death sentence on 18 counts.

FAISALABAD, June 16, 2010 (Balochistan Times): A police constable convicted in murder of nine persons, including his wife and in-laws, was awarded life sentence on 18 counts on Wednesday. According to the prosecution, a police constable Nasir Abbas had married Mehreen, daughter of prominent stage actress Rehana Chaudhry, but some differences were developed among the couple. The differences arose as Nasir did not provide house and maintenance to Mehreen as promised by him on the occasion of marriage. The issue infuriated the accused and he shot dead his wife Mehreen, mother-in-law Rehana Chaudhry, her husband Muhammad Yousuf, children Tajammal Ali (14), Muzammal (10), Wajiha Bibi (11), Kinza Bibi (8) and two servants Shehzad and Naveed on 8th August 2009 after entering into the house of his mother-in-law in the area of Police Station Ghulam Muhammad Abad. After seeing the evidences and hearing the witnesses, Raja Muhammad Arshad Judge Anti Terrorist Court (ATC) Faisalabad awarded capital punishment to Nasir Abbas on 18 counts under sections 7-ATA and 302 (B) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The convict was also directed to pay Rs 4.5 million as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased, besides payment of fine equal to the amount of compensation.
