Police called after package is found; IN BRIEF.

A POLICE cordon was put in place around a Middlesbrough park in the middle of a family fun day.

The play area of Stewart Park, Marton, was blocked off by police on Saturday after a rucksack was reportedly left unattended.

Reports on social media said the rucksack was left in the children's play area and its owner could not be traced.

Police attended at around 2pm and cordoned off the area.

Many families were out enjoying the warm June weather in the park when the play area was cleared.

Stewart Park was hosting the three-day long Party in the Park Event.

The cordon remained in place around the play park for about an hour before the park was fully reopened.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said there was "nothing to report" at the park when contacted by The Gazette.
