Police baton charge Aruwakkalu protesters.

The Police baton charged a protest staged in Puttalam today against the Aruwakkalu garbage dump site. The protest took place as President Maithripala Sirisena was visiting Puttalam to launch several projects.

The protesters had demanded to meet the President but the Police refused to allow the protesters to get close to the venue where the President was due to attend an event. It was also reported that the President had changed some of his plans in Puttalam as a result of the protest.
