Police admit rising crimes.
Police Spokesman Moses Carter told a press briefing Tuesday, 15 May that there are too many factors responsible for the high wave of robbery here, citing 'deviant behavior' and people taking the law into their own hands.
'Too many factors responsible: You want to talk about deviance; deviant behaviors. You want to talk about people taking the laws into their own hands and not taking advantage of the law. These are some of the factors perhaps you know, you may ascribe to the high wave of robbery and what have you,' Mr. Carter says.
In a police crimes report, Mr. Carter listed numerous armed robbery cases; accident cases which in some ways were countered by mob actions and murder were recorded.
According to him, police have arrested 18 individuals who allegedly burnt a truck that was involved in a road traffic accident in Bentol on Monday evening, 14 May, killing a 22 year - old man called Washington.
Addressing armed robbery incidents, he said about five suspects were held in handcuff during the press briefing Tuesday. Mr. Carter says suspects Joseph Koun (alias Car Owner), Sam Cooper and Boima Sherman were allegedly involved into series of armed robberies in Monrovia and its environs.
He says their alleged armed robberies operations include an incident on Capitol Bye- pass on 10 April this year, an incident at the Aminata Gas Station on 9th Street, Sinkor, And the one at the God's Willing Gas Station in Careysburg.
They wounded victim Teah Bull and his wife during one of the armed robbery operation and made away with L$600,000.00, according to Mr. Carter. They are in police custody and will be charged and send to court.
Suspects Sam Cooper and Boima Sherman were said to have been involved in an armed robbery incident at the Lone Star office in Gbarnga, Bong County on 28 April.
On Saturday, 12 May, Mr. Carter says armed robbery suspect Kortee Wedee (alias AFL Brabee, aka Eyebrow) was arrested in the Coca - Cola Factory Community in Paynesville and will be charged and forwarded to court.
He is alleged to have been waging series of robberies and armed robberies on peaceful citizens of Du-port Road, Coca - Cola Factory and Omega Communities in Paynesville.
Meanwhile, police say commercial drivers are also confronting notorious auto thieves that drug them with juice mixed with harmful substances before making away with their vehicles while the victims are asleep.
On 13 May, Mr. Carter says police arrested one of the notorious auto thieves identified as Jeff Romann of Du-port Road who has allegedly drugged commercial drivers constantly with juice believed to be contaminated with drugs.
In addition police authorities say they have also arrested the alleged sponsor of most of the auto theft Abraham Konneh of Jacob Town. Suspect Konneh was on Monday, 14 May arrested. During the investigation of Romann and Konneh, Mr. Carter says four vehicles were retrieved by police.
