Point made, but credit to Rhinos.

Byline: super saint writes for the echo Wilkin

IN reflecting on St Helens' 23-22 win over Leeds last Friday, the first thing I need to do is give credit to the Rhinos.

I've mentioned in this column before how Leeds play differently than any other team in Super League.

You got a perfect example of what I was alluding to at Headingley.

They had a number of players missing, but when the Rhinos get their offload game going they're a real handful.

At times they're turning sets of six into the equivalent of sets of ten by getting the ball away late in the tackle.

They force you to scramble to keep tabs on them which takes a lot of energy out of you.

There were times in the game, particularly in the second half when we didn't see the ball for quite long periods. That being the case, I think there was plenty in our defensive effort of which to be proud.

We were hanging on to Leeds' coattails a bit but I always felt if we could get some ball we still had it in us to take the spoils.

Our belief in our ability to win games at the moment is there for all to see.

In the end it was a dropgoal from Danny Richardson that snatched the victory but our set-up play on that set was excellent.

Luke Thompson in particular took us into the heart of the Leeds defence and gave Danny the best possible chance to knock over the one-pointer.

At the end of the day, it's two more league points for us and we're sitting nicely at the top of the ladder. Plenty of games left though.
