Pleva GmbH: Non-contact measurement of material temperature in hot environments.
Temperature sensor TDS 95 is used for non-contact measurement of the surface temperature of materials. The special design of the TDS sensor allows it to be used inside a heat-treatment machine (e.g. dryer) up to temperatures of 400oC.
The robust, rugged design of the sensor is a first requirement for use in production machines. The measuring principle is based on exchange of thermal radiation between the material to be measured and the sensitive surface of the TDS 95. It is located behind a radiation-permeable window in the TDS 95. Rapid changes in temperature are detected.
The temperature sensor is calibrated for materials characterized by approximately the same properties as a black body. Such materials include textiles, paper and plastics for instance.
Several TDS sensors are mounted in a heat-treatment machine, distributed over the length and width, depending on the particular measurement task. The sensors should be fitted above the material web and approximately 60 mm away from it. The measurement area then has a diameter of 300 mm.
A flexible metal conduit which protects the instrument leads electromagnetically (EMC), mechanically and thermally is flanged onto the sensor. This conduit must be routed through the wall of the heat-treatment machine at a suitable point.
Up to four sensors can be connected to the TDS-box outside the heat-treatment machine. The TDS-box is an intelligent measuring preamplifier with microprocessor evaluation. A maximum of 30 such TDS-boxes can be connected to a bus system, thus permitting up to 120 TDS-sensors to be evaluated.
