Please put my sofa bed search to rest; TRICKS of the TRADE.

Byline: ZENA ALLI

I'M looking for a sofa bed to fit in a 180cm gap below the window in my box room. I like the modern ones that just fold out sideways to become a flat bed, but all the ones I've seen are too wide. I only have a budget of about pounds 400. - Mandy Bowbrick, Dewsbury, West Yorks

ZENA SAYS: The side-folding sofa beds do tend to be wider. This is because when they fold out, the width of the sofa becomes the length of the mattress so you need it to be big enough to lie on (the length of a normal double bed is 191cm or 6ft 3in). But I have found this Acapulco sofa bed, now pounds 300 at Debenhams (www.debenhams.com, 0844 561 6161) which is 177cm (5ft 9in). Debenhams also has the Lindale sofa bed for pounds 400. Or head to Ikea (www.ikea.co.uk, 0845 355 1141) where the futon-style Lovas sofa bed is 163cm wide, from pounds 299.
