Please help us stop cuts; Your Shout.

IN the midst of all the current debate about major cuts to big spenders such as health, education and pensions, the real risk of drastic reductions to what is an already modest adult education funding must not be ignored.

Cuts will mean fewer courses and higher fees. Life-changing opportunities for adults which improve their employability and increase their skills, self-confidence and mental and physical wellbeing will disappear, to the detriment of individuals and their communities.

As an adult learner I was pleased to see that the Workers' Educational Association (WEA), together with several other adult education organisations, has launched a campaign which includes conversations with politicians at the very highest levels and an online petition against the cuts which already has some 5,000 signatures. If you or someone you know has been touched by adult education, please take time to write a short personal letter to your MP to explain how important adult education is to you. Please also sign the online petition at www.wea.org.uk and, finally, please ask others you know to do the same. Please act now.
