Plea to shut underpass.

A council is being urged to shut a pedestrian underpass and replace it with a crossing. The plea to Gateshead Council to close the underpass at Durham Road, near Cedars Green, Chowdene, comes from Labour councillors. Coun John McElroy, of Chowdene, said: "This tunnel has become troublesome and is daubed with graffiti."

The council has also been asked to do the same with the underpass at nearby Hereford Way.
