Players compete for doubles title.

Dalbeattie Tennis Club hosted its annual BSW sponsored mixed doubles competition on Sunday.

Players from across the region made up the 12 strong pairs who were split into two groups to play off in a league format playing seven games with the top two in each group going through.

After some real battles in both sections, going through from group A wer Brian Litster and Liz McTaggart (Dbt) with Richie Cunningham (Dfs) and Francesca Thom. In group B Paul Boardman (Dbt) and Susan Nugent (CD). The runners up place went down to the wire with a count back, with David Mackie (Annan) and Charlotte Carson edging out the 2018 Lions Cup champions Colin Kennedy and Mo Johnstone.

In the semi finals Richie and Francesca pulled off the biggest shock of the day knocking out the bookies favourites Paul and Sue comfortably. The other semi was a tighter match with Brian and Liz just edging out David and Charlotte. The format for the final changed to a set with both Richie and Francesca getting off to a flyer going 4-0 up. Despite some long rallies both Brian and Liz were struggling to finish off the points allowing Francesca to serve for the title.

With Richie and Francesca both gaining confidence it was only a matter of time before the title would be theirs, winning 6-1. The packed veranda was treated to some thrilling tennis throughout the day.
