Platinum Sound launches 160-watt subwoofer satellite speaker system.

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 1996--Rich bass and crisp highs have never been features of computer speakers at any price, until SC&T International Inc. (NASDAQ:SCTI,SCTIW) under its Platinum Sound(TM) trademark, introduces its 160-watt subwoofer systems designed for PC and home audio later this month.

The SWX-1600 blows the competition away both in performance and price, and changes the standards for computer sound forever more. Now, for under $100, the audio buff can convert his (or her) home computer into a stereo environment reminiscent of high-priced home audio.

The SWX-1600 Amplified Subwoofer Speaker System is available in white, for PC use, and also in black, for home stereo use. Both products feature two 16-watt, 3-inch, full-range satellite speakers, and 5-1/4-inch, high quality subwoofers. The black SWX-1600 marks the company's first product entry into the home audio channel, and signals the convergence of home audio and computer audio standards.

According to James Copland, president and founder of SC&T International, "To people who care about the sound environment, this system is a big deal. The Platinum Sound SWX-1600 delivers 160-watt superior sound performance, and will likely have a street price well below the cost of competing products.

"SC&T has set a new pricing standard at retail with its SWX-1600 for the industry's subwoofer category. Clearly the SWX-1600 offers a bigger boom for the buck over any other comparable system."

A versatile product, the SWX-1600 is compatible with IBM-PCs, Macintoshes, TV and VCR hookups, home stereos, portable tape and CD players.

Additional technical specifications and features include:

-- Frequency response (subwoofer) 20-150 Hz -- Frequency response (speakers) 15-20,000 Hz -- Wattage rating -- 160-watt P.M.P.O. (Peak Music Performance Output) -- Hookup for passive and active satellite speakers -- Speaker stands, AC/DC adapter and all cords included -- Speaker impedance -- 4 Ohm -- Power supply -- 15V, 2A -- Approvals -- UL, CSA, VDE, CE -- 1-year warranty

A consumer media campaign will support retailers carrying the SWX-1600 Amplified Subwoofer Speaker System and the PER4MER Turbo Wheel home arcade system, which was launched in January. Ads in leading national publications will reach over 1.2 million consumers per month.

For fall 1996, SC&T plans an even more aggressive national campaign to support its full line of Platinum Sound products that will hit the market for the September, October, November and December selling season. Selected Platinum Sound products can be found in Fry's, Computer City, Babbages, Software Etc. and major national mail order catalogs.

SC&T develops and markets accessory and peripheral products for the multimedia and communications segments of the personal computer industry under its Platinum Sound(TM) trademark.

The company's products include multimedia stereo keyboards, CD-ROM storage systems, various aftermarket SRS(R) 3D equalizer/amplifier sound enhancement products, subwoofer sound systems, PC volume controllers and CD-ROM audio cables. The company also markets and distributes, on an exclusive basis, the PER4MER Turbo Wheel in the United States, Canada and Europe.
