Plans to change laundry into flats.

PLANS have been submitted to convert a town centre laundrette into bedsits. Ms G Singh has applied to Middlesbrough Council to change a laundrette into five bedsits.

She proposes to convert the business, located at 142 Borough Road, in the town.

A design and access statement included as part of the application said: "The demand for the services provided by the laundry outlet is decreasing due to the increased use of home appliances.

"The rigid control of parking areas means the outlet is isolated from any passing trade.

"The business is proving to be not viable in the present situation."

The site currently has one parking space and there are no plans to add any more.

There are plans to add four cycle spaces to the site.

It is proposed that refuse bins will be placed in the rear yard area.

Neighbour comments on the proposals are is due by March 3 and Middlesbrough Council is due to make a decision by April 4.
