Plaid join Llais Gwynedd in criticising Israel for attacks on Palestinians.

PLAID Cymru Arfon MP Hywel Williams will use a debate in Parliament to welcome Gwynedd Council's decision not to invest or trade with Israel, after the recent attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Voting in favour of a motion calling for Palestine to be recognised as a state, Mr Williams praised Gwynedd for condemning the Israeli Government's use of "indiscriminate violence" in the recent conflict. He hoped other councils would follow suit.

Mr Williams said: "Recognising Palestine is to recognise Palestinian right to self-determination. It is quite wrong for Israel to try to veto Palestine's right to a State, and worse still for Britain to listen. Britain is the State which had responsibility for Palestine, and failed to ensure that Palestinians won their right for self-determination. With 135 countries already recognising Palestine, including many EU countries, and with Sweden announcing just last week, it's clear Britain should wait no longer. Y Felinheli Gwynedd Cllr Sian Gwenllian added: "I congratulate Cllr Owain Williams (Llais Gwynedd) for bringing the situation in Gaza to the council's attention. We condemn terrorism at all levels but particularly when disproportionate violence results in the for Palestine to be recognised as a state, Mr Williams praised Gwynedd for condemning the Israeli Government's use of "indiscriminate violence" in the recent conflict. He hoped other councils would follow suit.
