Pittsburgh's American beer is shipped to Russian market.

Pittsburgh Brewing Co. and BFB, Inc., a newly-formed trading company with dealings in the Russian Republic, recently signed a $5-million contract to sell American-made suds in that new country.

The agreement involves the export of 1.5 to 2 million cases of Pittsburgh Brewing Co.'s American brand beer for sale to markets in Russia.

According to a Pittsburgh Brewing official, the deal will result in nearly $5 million in sales for the brewery.

"Just a year ago, we were marketing and selling beer exclusively within the borders of the United States," noted Jack Isherwood, president of Pittsburgh Brewing Co. "So far this year, we've rung up close to $4 million in international sales."

Isherwood added that demand for this type of contract is growing.

"The demand for contract brewing is growing at a rapid rate from sources within the United States and abroad," he said. "We expect these types of contracts to be integral components of our business for years to come."

Isherwood went on to explain that BFB was attracted to Pittsburgh Brewing because of the American brand's "inherent marketing appeal and the company's brewing expertise." BFB added that it is interested in a possible joint brewing/manufacturing venture in Russia in the future.
