Pirates walk all over City planks.

Orlando Man City 20 CARLOS TEVEZ and Roque Santa Cruz looked on glumly from the stands as South Africa's Orlando Pirates sank City hopes of a winning start to the Vodacom Challenge. But the mood in the camp improved last night with the arrival from Arsenal of pounds 25million striker Emmanuel Adebayor. City boss Mark Hughes fielded an under-strength side with Robinho, Shay Given, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Gareth Barry also missing.

Valeri Bojinov, pictured, got a chance to prove he still has a future but the Bulgarian spurned two easy chances.

First, he found space inside the box only to shoot tamely at the keeper and then he managed to miss with a header from all of six yards.

Lucas Thwala scored a 41st-minutepenalty then debut keeper Stuart Taylor let Phenyo Mogale''s shot loop over his head in the 56th minute.
