Pink Caravan Ride, the initiative by the Friends of Cancer Patients to spread breast cancer awareness, combines Emirati traditional sport of horse riding and healthcare, said a volunteer-cum-rider for eight years.

According to Nader Nassar, who is working in Dubai while completing his master's degree, felt horse riding, volunteerism, community service and healthcare are some of the aspects which are close to the heart of everyone in the UAE.

"I have a great passion for horses and I like to do a lot of voluntary work. Pink Caravan involves horses and noble cause of spreading awareness about cancer, which makes it an important initiative to be part of for everyone. That's why I got involved from the second year onwards and now this is the ninth edition. It has been a great pleasure and honour to be part of this initiative where you have an opportunity to give back to the community. A lot of my friends are also part of this campaign," he told Khaleej Times.

Nassar feels prevention is better than cure and the campaign has helped create awareness among people.

"I have found the interest level growing among people to know about Pink Caravan. And this is not only within the UAE but globally. This campaign has seen more participation from people to do screening. So, the level of awareness is growing. Breast cancer affects not just women but men too and this is the message we are trying to spread among people."

Nassar is confident that the process of spreading breast cancer awareness will go from strength to strength is coming years.
