Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP announced that longtime real estate investment and finance lawyer, Brant K. Mailer, is joining the firm's New York office.
Maller, who joins Pillsbury from Bryan Cave LLP, will direct Pillsbury's real estate practice in New York, while also leading a new firm-wide alternative investments team.
Maller has a deep roster of real estate clients, having represented investors and institutions in sophisticated and highly structured financial transactions. He helped structure the first major military housing privatization at Fort Carson, Colorado. He worked on the prepackaged bankruptcy for the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix, one of the first of its kind. He has also represented the Benetton family of Italy in its U.S. real estate holdings for nearly two decades.
He a member of the real estate investment committee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund. He also serves on the California State Controller's Advisory Council on Investments, advising the Controller on matters related to his seats on the Boards of CalPERS and CalSTRS (the nation's largest and second largest pension funds, respectively).
Maller is a former finance chair and executive committee member of the New York State Democratic Committee and is a member of the legal advisory board of First American Title Insurance Company of New York.
He received a BA, cure laude, from University of Pennsylvania (1978) and a combined MCRP and law degree from Harvard University-Boston University (1982).
