Pillar awards.

Awarded to longtime members who have worked faithfully in their state societies and have compiled a long track record of service to AMT at the state level but who are eliminated from consideration from national awards simply because they have already received them. Limited to those individuals who received national Distinguished Achievement Awards at least five years prior to 2001.

Nathalie G. Dixon, MT, Saginaw, MI, was certified in 1958. She is the current secretary of the Michigan state society. She also has served on various national committees. Honors include Distinguished Achievement. She is retired after working in the medical laboratory field for 45 years.

Carletha A. Durham, MT, Brunswick, GA, was certified as a MLT in 1985, MT in 1988. She is the current treasurer of the Georgia state society and also serves on the state Advisory Council-Legislature. Honors include Distinguished Achievement. At the state level, she was recognized with state Tech of the Year and Certificate of Merit. She attended Atlanta College, MLT program, and is employed by Southeastern Pathology Associates in Savannah, GA.

Tonya D. Satterfield, MT, Fairmont, WV, was certified in 1992. She is the current president of the West Virginia state society (past vice president, treasurer, and secretary). She also served on several state committees. Honors include Distinguished Achievement and Exceptional Merit. Ms. Satterfield earned an AS Medical Lab Technician from Fairmont State College. She is a medical technologist at Fairmont General Hospital.

Virginia Schuerman, MT, Ainsworth, IA, was certified in 1961. She is the current president of the Iowa state society and past state society editor. Honors include Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, and Editor of the Year. Mrs. Schuerman attended the College of Medical Technologists in Minneapolis and is a bench tech, per diem, at Washington Co. Hospital & Clinics in Washington, IA.

Anna Mae Seals, RPT, Clinton, OK, was certified in 1993. She is the current president of the Oklahoma state society (past treasurer). She also served on several national and state committees. Honors include Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, and Phlebotomist of the Year. At the state level, she was recognized with the Oklahoma Member of the Year. Ms. Seals attended the American College of Health Careers-MLT program in Oklahoma City and is retired from Oklahoma Veteran's Center Clinton Div.

Michelle Tew, RMA, Salt Lake City, UT, was certified in 1992. She is the current president and editor of the Utah state society and also served on several state and national committees. Honors include Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, and Most Improved Publication award. State honors include Distinguished Achievement and Officer of the Year. She earned a Medical Assistant Certificate at the Bryman School for Medical Assistants and EMT Certificate from EMEDCO.

Kaye A. Tschop, MT, Nashville, TN, was certified in 1981. She currently serves on the Tennessee state society board of directors (past president, vice president, secretary, and editor). She also served on several state and national committees. Honors include Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, and Third Place Journal award. State honors include Technologist of the Year, Silver Lens, and President's Award. Ms. Tschop attended Baylor University and received an AS from St. Philip's College. She is laboratory information manager at VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System.

Gretchen Tupa, RMA, Mesa, AZ, was certified in 1993. She is the current vice president and editor of the Arizona state society. Mrs. Tupa also has served on several national and state committees. Honors include Distinguished Achievement, Exceptional Merit, RMA of the Year, and Editor of the Year. State honors include Outstanding Service, Carole Miller Award, State Editor Appreciation, and Service Appreciation certificates. She earned a Certificate of Graduation in Medical Assisting from Apollo College in Mesa, AZ, and Certificate of Completion in Leadership Training from Rosemont Technical, Rosemont, MN. She is Gilbert office coordinator-front & back office and phone triage for Arizona Asthma & Allergy Institute in Gilbert, AZ, and Xolair coordinator for four office locations.
