Pigeon Thrilled with 2004 Caldecott Honor, Demands He Drive the Bus!; 2004 Caldecott Honor Awarded to Mo Willems, Author/Illustrator of ``Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!''.
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 13, 2004
We might have to let the Pigeon drive the bus after all.
Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, the popular debut title from cartoonist and author Mo Willems has been selected as a 2004 Caldecott Honor recipient by the American Library Association, it was announced earlier today at the ALA Midwinter Conference in San Diego, California.
Pigeon creator and six time emmy-award winning writer Mo Willems hopes the recent success will not go to the Pigeon's head. "I will have to keep his head out of the clouds, which will be difficult since he has wings," Willems said. Asked for a comment on his recent success, Pigeon replied, "Hey, can I drive the bus to the awards ceremony? Come on, please? Let me drive the bus! How many awards do I have to get before you let me drive the bus!?" He then politely asked for a hot dog.
The Caldecott Honor recognizes outstanding illustration of works published in the United States during the previous year.
