The nine-year-old has shown remarkable determination in his continuing battle against a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma.
He has been undergoing chemotherapy at St James' Hospital in Leeds, but his family has now been told that this has been unsuccessful.
They are now having to look further afield to Great Ormond Street in London or even specialist treatment in America, Germany or Italy.
But doing this comes with enormous cost for travel, somewhere to stay and, possibly, even the treatment. What Pierce and his family are going through puts life into context. People often say they feel helpless in such situations yet want to do all they can to help.
They can, simply by supporting these charity events.
