Pienaar could be in line for Ajax return in summer.

STEVEN PIENAAR could be set to return to Ajax when his Everton contract expires in the summer, according to his agent.

The 33-year-old midfielder made his longawaited return to action for the Blues on Saturday, helping them to a 2-0 FA Cup third-round win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Roberto Martinez praised the playmaker's involvement afterwards, and had earlier described his return to full fitness for the first time since April as a "shining light".

Martinez, though, refused to be drawn on whether Pienaar, who turns 34 next month, would be offered a contract extension when his latest deal expires in the summer.

He said: "I think the matter with Stevie P is to make sure he is fully fit first and foremost and from that point on sit down and see what is best for the next step."

Now his business manager Rob Moore, according to the official Twitter account for the South African national football team, has hinted he will return to the Dutch Eredivisie in the summer.

The tweet said: "Steven Pienaar might leave Everton for Ajax Amsterdam, according to his business manager Rob Moore."

Pienaar left Ajax in 2006 after making 95 appearances, and joined Borussia Dortmund.

He left Germany for a loan spell at Everton, later made permanent.
