Pictometry Participates in Pilot Program at United States Fire Administration.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Training Provides Nation's Top Fire Fighting Professionals with Planning and Tactical Response Scenarios Using Georeferenced, Oblique Imagery; Software and Imagery to Be Part of Ongoing Program

Pictometry International Corp., provider of a patented information system that captures georeferenced, digital aerial oblique and orthogonal images as well as related software, announced today that its software and high-resolution imagery have been incorporated as part of an executive level, fire training course at the United States Fire Administration's training facility in Emmitsburg, MD.

The USFA, part of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency, is tasked with providing leadership, advocacy, and support to reduce the impact of fire related emergencies. The agency provides a number of training and technology services that help keep the nation's fire fighting professionals informed of new technologies and techniques to improve planning and response efforts. Pictometry was selected to be part of the pilot program on new technologies to be taught at the Fire Academy and presented a variety of scenarios on how to use metric oblique imagery in preplanning, en route, and on-the-scene tactical uses. Scenarios covered by Pictometry included:

--Critical Facility Event (School)

--Wildfire Response

--Chemical Incident

--Transportation Accident

--Terrorist Situation

--Arson Investigation Tool

Pictometry's industry leading software enables users to quickly and easily access up to 12 different high-resolution views of any property, building, highway, landmark, or other feature in a county. The software also enables end users to obtain measurements directly from the imagery as well as insert GIS content and other data. The company's customer list is approaching 100 counties, the State of Massachusetts, and includes a number of major metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.

Pictometry provides a number of key applications for the fire industry:

--Preplanning responses for major structures and facilities

--Locating and establishing field command centers

--Measuring hose distance from secondary water sources and hydrants to fire

--Zooming in and inspecting structural composition, roof layout, and access points

--Accessing structural inventories such as sprinklers and hazardous material lists

--Integrating third-party data such as plume impact

--Viewing impact of wind direction on neighborhoods for potential evacuations

--Sending coordinates of house numbering systems to MDTs in vehicles en route

--Sharing tactical information with other Homeland Security agencies

According to the department's evaluation responses, the pilot project yielded positive results from attending fire and emergency service personnel who stated that the Pictometry training was quickly and easily learned. Within a few short hours participants were able to apply customized Pictometry solutions that would meet their organizational needs. Pictometry's software and high-resolution imagery are scheduled to be a regular part of the Fire Academy's executive-level Planning and Information Management training curriculum.
