Piano teacher strikes a chord with 100th birthday.
A FORMER piano teacher struck a chord yesterday when she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Rhianon Gabrielson received her telegram from the Queen at The Gables nursing home in Penmaenmawr.
Formerly from Trefriw, Conwy the pensioner suffers with Alzheimer's Rhianon her 100th Bryn Parri Disease and on reaching the landmark age, she said: "I've made it."
Friend and protege Annette Bryn Parri joined in the celebrations with a glass of wine and slice of cake yesterday.
celebrating with Annette Ms Parri said: "I had my first piano lesson with Mrs Gabrielson back in August 1973 and she remained my piano teacher until I went to Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester back in 1980.
"We've remained very close throughout the years.
"She is really a special person, a wonderful friend and a gifted musician."
Ms Parri, who has gone on to accompany many of the Welsh musical greats including opera star Bryn Terfel in her profession, added: "I owe my career as a pianist to Mrs Gabrielson and was honoured to celebrate her 100th birthday with her.
"When she was given her telegram from the Queen, she couldn't believe it and kept saying 'I've made it."
