Piano competition in Japan in June. (Competitions).
There are two levels of competition: Special Grade, scheduled for June 21-22, open to pianists of all nationalities and ages, and G Grade, scheduled for June 7-8, where applicants must be twenty-six years old or younger.
Special Grade competitors can perform a piano solo or repertoire that includes concertos for two pianos; G Grade participants must perform a piano solo.
Competitors must complete the first preliminary and second preliminary stages to be eligible for the finals.
First-prize winners for Special Grade receive 1,000,000 yen, second-prize winners receive 400,000 yen and the third prize is worth 200,000 yen. A jury's special prize is also awarded to one or two contestants. Grade G winners receive 300,000 yen, second-prize winners receive 200,000 yen and the third prize is worth 100,000 yen. Jury's special prize awards also are presented.
In addition, PTNA offers a Teacher's Award to those teachers who have dedicated themselves to piano teaching. Teachers who qualify must meet one of the following requirements: entering eight or more of their students in the district finals (second preliminary/semi-finals), having two students participating in the finals, entering six or more students in the district finals (second preliminary/semi-finals) and also having one student participate in the finals, or having 120 points or more (since 1977) in PTNA Piano Competition District Preliminary (First Preliminary), PTNA Step and PTNA Official Piano Performance Examination.
Last year, 206 Teacher's Award winners were announced.
The deadline for applications for the first preliminary round is May 14 for Special Grade participants and May 7 for Grade G.
