Phone calls hoaxer alert.
A man, giving his name as John Keary, called separate tenants of West Lancs council, telling them they were required to attend Whelmar House.
He told one he needed to speak about an anti-social behaviour order and told another he had to discuss matters "pertaining to another tenant".
On their arrival at Whelmar House, both were told there was no Mr Keary on the staff register and they never had any need to visit the office at all.
Officers at WLDC have issued a warning to all tenants to be on their guard.
A spokesman said:
"If tenants receive a call from anyone claiming to be from the council, please take as many details as possible, including the caller's name and telephone number with their direct extension. This may be a good time for residents to register with the Housing Services Password Scheme, which they can do just by calling 01695 585221."
