Phoenix rises to the occasion for Nomads.

A HAT-TRICK from Anthony Phoenix helped Beaumont Accountancy Nomads A to a 5-5 draw with Swerve A in the first division of the Middlesbrough and District Table Tennis League.

This drawn fixture helps Ormesby A, who beat the club's own D team 10-0, to move four points ahead at the top of the table.

Phoenix's hat-trick was scored by a comfortable margin as he won all three sets in straight games.

For Swerve, Josh Harland and Kieran Wardell won two each with the closest set being Harland's win over Mark Walpole 3-2, including the fourth game at 11-9. Walpole and Stephen Cooper won one each for Beaumont, while Harland and Wardell won the doubles for Swerve.

In the Ormesby match the club's A team defeated the D team 10-0 with hat-tricks from George Hill, David Gofton and Thomas Rayner.

The D team did put up some strong resistance but could not cope with the strength of the club's A side.

Swerve C maintained their interest in the Championship race with a 10-0 victory over Beaumont C with hat tricks from Sam Bailey, Andrew Wilson and Martin Rutter.
