Phipps Houses to manage St. Vincent staff housing.

St. Vincent's Hospital has selected Phipps Houses Services, Inc. (PHSI) to manage the housing it owns and maintains for its medical staff. Two buildings, with approximately 200 housing units, are involved: 107 West 11th St. and 555 Sixth Avenue.

PHSI has been acting as managing agent since March 1st (when the former agent went out of business) and has begun developing a plan to reduce costs and address longstanding capital needs.

Eight St. Vincent's employees, including a resident super, round-the-clock-doormen, porters, and a handyman will take care of day-to-day needs, with Maria Kenigsberg, the PHSI Property Manager, in charge of both buildings.

The provision of housing has become a critical element for hospitals and educational institutions in their recruitment and retention of professional, medical, and administrative staff in the metropolitan area, requiring exceptional levels of operational and financial management.
