Philippines : Philhealth-Bicol assures coverage for measles confinement.

With the increasing cases of measles in the Bicol region, , the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) - Regional Office V guaranteed the public that confinements due to measles are compensable.

PhilHealth coverage for measles ranges from P7,700 to P25,700. Uncomplicated cases are paid at P7,700 while related complications such as pneumonia is compensated at P15,000 and meningitis at P25,700.

According to Geraldine Naron, PhilHealth-Bicol public relations officer, even non-members and their dependents can avail of the coverage when needing confinement due to measles through the Point of Service (POS) program.

Non-PhilHealth members can avail the benefits thru the POS program at any PhilHealth accredited government-owned hospital such as the BRTTH (Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital), she said.

Non-members who are financially incapable can avail a one-year PhilHealth coverage to be paid by the government effective at the time of their availment.

"Non-members who are financially incapable must present a certificate of indigency to the medical social worker to avail of the one-year PhilHealth coverage not only for measles but other benefit packages as well," Naron said.

Moreover, financially-capable patients will be allowed to pay at least a years worth of contributions for them to enjoy the benefits.

Furthermore, Naron reminded the No Balance Billing Policy for indigent, sponsored, kasambahay, senior citizens and lifetime members and their qualified dependents.

The No Balance Billing Policy guarantees zero out-of-pocket on the part of the member when confined at the ward of any government facility.
