Philippines : Davao City has 49 new SWAT members.

About 49 policemen graduated from the 15-day Special Weapons and Tactic (SWAT) advance course facilitated by the Davao City Police Office.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio graced the graduation of the new SWAT members held yesterday (August 3) at Camp Domingo Leonor, the DCPO headquarters.

During the graduation, the 48 graduates (one SWAT member is currently in the United States representing the country in an athletic event) conducted simulated drills showcasing their newfound capabilities.

The City Mayor urged the SWAT policemen to do their duty and respond when the need arises using the skills and capabilities they learned from the course.

I am confident that you will be able to do it and you will meet the expectation of the public when the time comes. The Mayor said in her speech.

According to Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum DCPO chief, the expanded SWAT team will provide the city with a capable tactical response which will help prevent the occurrence of another Marawi siege.

The SWAT members will be grouped into four teams and deployed in strategic points across the city; Sta. Ana, Buhangin, Tugbok and Sasa. Their strategic deployment enhances their response during emergencies.

Before the completion of their training, Davao City had a single SWAT team.

Each SWAT member will have their SWAT uniform and an issued M4 assault rifle for mobility a customized SWAT van is being acquired by the city government, the costs of the equipment and training is estimated at P5-million.
