Philippines : Comval holds team building and planning workshop for Bayanihan Para sa Kalusuga- Kusina ng Kalinga.
The Provincial Government of Compostela Valley under the leadership of Governor Jayvee Tyron L. Uy holds Team Building and Planning Activity for Bayanihan Para sa Kalusugan-Kusina ng Kalinga (BPSK-KnK) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Uswag Gawad Kalinga (Uswag GK) Foundation last July 27, 2016 at Dominican Retreat House, Agan, Magdum, Tagum City.
The participants of the workshops are the PG Department Heads, Dep-Ed Officials and Teachers, School Principals, PTA Officials, Uswag GK members and the KnK for Mindanao.
According to Ruben J. Reponte-DepEd Education Supervisor that the pilot school of this proposed program is the Maco North and South public elementary schools and the target beneficiaries are the elementary pupils who are wasted and severely wasted.
He added that the DepEd has allocated a total budget for this year of Php18Million from the School Based Feeding Program (SBFP).
The feeding program is good for one hundred twenty (120) feeding days equivalent to six (6) months and the budget is for the 8,000 pupils as the beneficiaries, he said.
Meanwhile, Celso Bacalla-Head of Operation KnK for Mindanao said that the KnK is the new program of the GK which aims to address hunger among the poorest of the poor. The GK is known for initiating the building of houses in the community.
He added that the GK found out that for us to address poverty, we need also to address hunger that is why the KnK is started with the GK initiatives in partnership with the Ateneo who provides the module of nutrition and now we hope to share this program in DepEd, LGU and other private stakeholders who are willing to align or part of the GK to address hunger, said Bacalla.
He stressed out that the program started after the typhoon Yolanda hits in the province of Leyte and is started to feed about 3, 000 students in Alang-alang, Leyte. The GK found out that this program is not only for calamity or disaster but also for schools.
He stressed further about the objectives of the program, first is to address hunger and the platform of this is the formal education system especially the elementary level; second is for values formation because we see that this is not just a feeding program but we hope to educate or to influence the whole family especially the parents because this is a community building program; third, that this program would create impact on local economy that through this program, we can create social enterprise that the community will be the supplier for vegetable and other ingredients; fourth is to advocate on local legislation to be mainstreamed in the government to make it sustainable, said Bacalla.
