The provincial government employees in Negros Occidental gathered for a Rescue Olympics, a disaster preparedness contest conducted relative to the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM).

Caelian further said that the participants must be able to perform the standard first-aid procedures effectively and organize the Provincial Capitol Employees Response Team. Teams that participated in the contest were judged according to their performance in Basic Life Support or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bandaging, splinting, lifting and moving of the injured person, medical emergencies, and wound care dressing.

Winners will be announced July 31, 2018 in time with the Closing Program of the NDR Month Celebration. This years observance of the NDRM bannered the theme, Katatagan sa Kalamidad ay Makakamtan Kapag Sapat ang Kaalaman sa Kahandaan.

Under the Executive Order Number 29 dated 28 June 2017, the Philippines observes the NDRM through the conduct of activities highlighting disaster prevention and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response and disaster rehabilitation and recovery.
