Philippines : CONTRACTORS urged to hasten MRDP infrastructure projects.

The Mindanao Rural Development Program is set to fast-track the completion of rural infrastructure projects by June 2014, with the program anticipated to end by December 2013.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala on 17 March 2014, during the kick-off meeting of the 11th World Bank Review Mission meeting said, As MRDP implementation is nearing its homestretch, we urge all contractors and concern LGUs local government units to fast-track project construction and must ensure that it will be completed before June 2014. We are also reminding LGUs and contractors engaged in the program of their commitment to finish the project on the agreed timeline, otherwise they should complete the remaining works at their own expense.

Contractors that have pending engagements with MRDP will not be allowed to take part in upcoming projects under the Philippine Rural Development Program, which is anticipated to start in 2014 once MRDP ends.

Carolina Figueroa-Geron, World Bank lead rural development specialist and PRDP Task Team leader said, They contractors have to ensure the project is 100% completed before they can enter into another contract with PRDP. This will be an outstanding requirement.
