Philippines : Angels Walk held in Davao City.
The Angels Walk 2019 in Davao City was held Jan. 20 at SM Lanang Premiere and participated in by about 1,500 people.
The Angels Walk is a mall parade conducted by SM Supermalls through its SM Cares and Autism Society of the Philippines.
The purpose of this event is to create awareness, acceptance, appreciation on persons living with autism," says Uswaldo Parreas Autism Society of the Philippines Davao Chapter president.
Around 500 persons living with autism participated in the mall parade along with their parents, siblings, guardians, friends, supporters together with SM officers and employees. The Angels Walk was held from SMX towards the inside of SM Lanang Premiere. The parade rounded out each floor of the three storey mall.
The walk culminated inside SMX where persons living with autism showcased various performance skills like song and dance numbers.
The mall parade for a cause aims to raise public awareness on the condition of persons afflicted with autism and create ripples of change that make communities inclusive. Angels Walk was first staged in 2007.
The event is part of the National Autism Consciousness Week which banners the theme Pagtuon Tugon sa Pilipinong may K dulot nang Autismo #kakayahan #kagalingan #kakanyahan."
Meanwhile, Parreas said that aside from Angels Walk, among the strategies implemented by the ASP is early intervention where they go to barangays to properly diagnose children not yet diagnosed and where they can provide the necessary intervention.
