Philippines : 8 Kalinga MSMEs validated for product improvement.

Eight micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were validated of their product quality and food safety under the Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) Program of the Department of Science and Technology(DOST) to ensure these are competitive both in price and quality for both export and local markets.

Two consultants from Technology Plus Product and Services Consultancy Company deployed by DOST visited MSMEs here undertaking productivity consultancy services namely Istaychi Wine making, Kinwa Etnica, Amano Furniture Shop, Ebas Food Products, Ej-Ed Highland Flavors, Mt. Zion Bakery, Eljus Food Products and Rlyns Food Products.

We have to ensure that consumers buy quality products, get the right price of products, and that food products are safe for consumption, DOST-Kalinga head Jasmin Donaal said .

Part of the consultancy services include product quality of manufacturing firms and compliance of food processors to Food and Drugs Administration rules and regulations and other regulatory institutions. Owners of these establishments firms were also coached on strategies to increase sales.

MPEX Program aims to identify strategies to improve productivity of MSMEs, recommend productivity improvement measures for immediate implementation, develop capability to provide other forms of assistance to improve the manufacturing sector, and provide a venue for the entry of other DOST programs and projects particularly technology transfer activities.
