Philippines : 2019 PCOO roadshow goes to Cebu.

The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) will be conducting the 2019 roadshow on the Freedom of Information (FOI) program and other significant government programs undertaken by PCOO on Aug. 27, 2019 at the Cebu Normal University from 9:00 am to 12:00 nn.

PCOOs Cebu leg of the roadshow will focus on FOI, aiming to increase media and information literacy and to promote responsible handling and sharing of information to end the proliferation of fake news.

The discussions will also tackle the efforts made by PCOO to enhance the protection of local media through the Presidential Task Force on Media Security, promote gender equality through the gender and development focal point system, and to be able to raise civic awareness on transparency and accountability in governance through the FOI.

It was in the year 2016 that President Duterte signed the FOI order entailing all agencies, bureaus, and departments under the executive branch to disclose public records, contracts, transactions, and any information requested by a member of the public, with the exception of matters affecting national security and other information that falls under the inventory of exceptions.

The PCOO Roadshow aims also to further increase public awareness on the government's accomplishments, and how the public can avail of the different government programs and services.

PCOO also aims to partner with educational institutions for the schools to include the FOI program in their curricula and to promote FOI as an academic tool for research. (smb/PIA7)
