Philippine inflation edges up to 10.2 pc in Oct.

MANILA, Nov. 5 Kyodo The year-on-year inflation rate in the Philippines for October came to 10.2%, up slightly from 10% in September, the National Statistics Office said Thursday.

Economists attributed the slight increase to the two typhoons that recently battered the country, resulting in higher food prices.

The inflation rate for food alone was 9.9% in October, up from 9.5% in September. In particular, prices of fruits and vegetables jumped 20.2% in October, compared with September's 15.5% rise, the office said.

The inflation rate for clothing, meanwhile, decelerated to 7.9% in October from September's 8.5%, and that for housing and repairs to 10.7% from 11.1%, it said.
