Philippine basketball legends to descend in Dubai.

The Filipino community in the UAE is in for a big treat this Friday. They will get to witness a Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) legends team led by former senator Robert Jaworski in action in an exhibition match against Dubai-All Stars at the Al Shabab Club in Al Mamzar, Dubai.

Other than Jaworski, more popularly known as 'Jawo' or 'Big J' and acclaimed as 'The Living Legend' of Philippine basketball, the team consists of PBA's 25 Greatest Players of All-Time such as four-time MVP Alvin Patrimonio, Johnny Abarrientos, Ato Agustin, Samboy Lim and Jojo Lastimosa. Other include Kenneth Duremdes, Marlou Aquino, Noli Locsin, Bobby Jose, and Bonel Balingit.

Chris Flores, one of the organisers, said: "This is a great opportunity for the Filipino community based in the UAE. Most of them would have hardly interacted with them but this evening will give them an opportunity to get closer to them."

The legends team will face a selection of the finest active players in various basketball tournaments in the UAE, who were also former professional and standout collegiate players, namely team captain DJ de Jesus, a former professional player who suited up for Davao Eagles and Red Bull in the Philippines.

Former PBA players Ruben dela Rosa and Rolly Basilides will also be in the Dubai line-up as well as Nonoy Sayon, who led Vopak win the championship in the recent Maktoum Ramadan Cup in Fujairah; Filipino-Emirati and UAE national player Khalifa Salem; Roel Hugnatan, who played in the Asian Basketball League in Malaysia; Alwyn Flores, who played for Socsargen Marlins in the MBA; Al Federiso; JR Go; Archie Cruz; Jayson Araneta; and former college varsity players Romar Menor, Alex Miclat, JR Go, Lito Callueng, Arnold Aguila, Alfie Gesta, Cesar Magtalas and Joel Manongdo.

The audience will also be treated to a three-point shoot-out and slam dunk competition. The event is organised by Philippine Expat Basketball Club (PEBC); sanctioned by the UAE Basketball Association and sponsored by Max's Restaurant, The Philippine School, LBC, Cebuana Lhuiller,Ghaliyah Travel & Tours and Asiana Hotel. Ticket prices are Dhs 50, 75 and 100.
