Philippine basketball legends for Goodwill Games.

A TEAM of Philippine basketball legends will be visiting Bahrain in May to play in the seventh edition of the Bahrain-Philippines Goodwill Games.

The squad will be spearheaded by the likes of Vince Hizon, Kenneth Duremdes, Jerry Codiuera, Noli Locsin and Bal David - all top stars during their careers as professionals in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

They will be joined by Rey Evangelista, Rodney Santos, Aris Dimaunahan, and a few other players who will be announced soon.

The seventh Goodwill Games will be taking place on May 9 and 10 at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam.

The much-awaited event will be held under the patronage of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Bahrain Basketball Association.

The legends will be taking to the court twice during the Goodwill Games. On opening night, they will go head to head with an All-Star selection of Bahrain-based Filipino players. It will be followed with the main event the next evening, when they take on a team of Bahrain's very own basketball legends.

The roster of the Bahraini team will be announced soon, according to event organisers.

Amongst the high-profile names on the visiting Philippine squad, Duremdes, Locsin, Codiuera and David have all come to Bahrain in the past. Duremdes and David were also part of a legends team that played in the sixth Goodwill Games held in 2011.

Hizon and Evangelista are set to be the most popular of the first-timers here in Bahrain.

Hizon, a six-foot, two-inch shooting guard, played most of his 11-year professional career with popular PBA franchise Ginebra. He has won multiple team championships and individual honours and was a fan-favourite, known for his clutch shooting and slashing ability.

Evangelista enjoyed a 15-year playing career in the PBA with the Purefoods franchise. The six-foot, four-inch forward also has won multiple titles and individual awards during his playing days.
