Philip Glass opera heading to Mold.

PHILIP GLASS' opera In The Penal Colony comes to Mold next week.

Based on Franz Kafka's short story, the Music Theatre Wales production is a study of man's inhumanity and intolerance, authority, cruelty, and of the process of execution.

The opera's intimate, claustrophobic setting focuses on obsessive Officer (Omar Ebrahim) who regards his execution machine as a perfect means of punishment and the horrified Visitor (Michael Bennett) who is required to witness events. Actor Gerald Tyler is the Condemned Man.

Philip Glass' pulsating, compulsive music rakes up the tension to a haunting, unforgettable climax.
