driven by their belief in their role as health care providers and the importance of improving the health and well being of menopausal women, PharmacyOne, one of the leading pharmacy chains in Jordan and the region, announced its participation in the sponsorship of the "Eyas Walk" which will take place on May 16th 2008 under the patronage of HRH princess Muna Al Hussein, Organized by Jordan Menopause Society.

Jordan Menopause Society was established in Jordan in 1999 under the patronage of her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussien, where it's major goal is to improve the health and well being of menopause women.

Dr. Lian Otay, president of Eyas society said "What people usually think about menopause is that it is something that happens to women in their 50s, but menopause can and does happen to women well before that age."

She also added "If women have menopause before age of 40 they are said to have experienced premature menopause., early menopause can be The result of disease or disease related treatment, for example cancer patients who receive chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Some of those patients become menopause at a very young age, as young as 16 or 17 years old.Dr. Lara Abbasi, Managing Director of PharmacyOne said" As key members of the integrated healthcare team, pharmacists are in a prime position to identify women who may benefit from preventive and therapeutic postmenopausal interventions. It is important for pharmacists to understand the benefits and risks of current therapies to ensure effective counseling. When treatment is prescribed, the pharmacist can support the physicians by using pharmaceutical care models to enhance patient management, and as the slogan Eyas uses: add life to years.,."

The main are of interest for Jordan menopause society is preventive screening. The society strongly believes that prevention costs less than treatment, and that for women to be productive they should be healthy. Towards achieving that goal Jordan menopause society has organized several activities in the past ranging from public lectures to walks, exhibitions and international conferences. The activities aimed at promoting the concept of "preventive screening" among women especially menopause women.Jordan menopause society is currently working on developing a well woman clinic model. Women are encouraged to literally walk into the clinic, have a set of predetermined test done, all at one place (one stop shop). Test suggested include mammogram, Pap smear, bone densitometry, bloods for lipids, sugar, thyroid tests, blood pressure measurement and breast exam. The launch of the well woman clinic initiative is next on the society's agenda.
