THE pharmacy run by a man who stands accused of murdering his wife has closed its doors.

Mitesh and Jessica Patel both worked as pharmacists at the Roman Road Pharmacy close to the home they shared in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough.

On May 14, Mrs Patel was found dead at the couple's semi-detached home on The Avenue in the upmarket area of Middlesbrough. She had suffered serious injuries. Her husband was charged with her murder and is expected to stand trial in November.

A large area of the busy suburban street where the couple lived was cordoned off, and police remained at the scene for over a week while investigations were carried out.

Police activity also focused on the pharmacy and forensic investigations were carried out inside and outside the premises.

The pharmacy continued to operate and a locum pharmacist was brought in to write prescriptions.

A sign has now been posted on the door of the pharmacy stating it has closed. And a message on the answer machine of the business confirmed it has "closed indefinitely".

Mr Patel, 36, appeared at Teesside Crown Court on May 22.

He will next appear at Teesside Crown Court on September 3 and is remanded in custody.
