PharmaVigilant Certified as Compliant with E.U., Switzerland Safe Harbor Frameworks.

PharmaVigilant's Certification Signifying Compliance with the Principles of Secure Data Transfer In and Out of the EU and Switzerland

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. -- PharmaVigilant, a provider of integrated clinical trial software solutions, announced today that it received Safe Harbor Certification effective April 5, 2011. PharmaVigilant has certified to the U.S. Department of Commerce that it complies with both the U.S.-European Union and the U.S.-Switzerland Safe Harbor Frameworks.

"As PharmaVigilant continues to expand globally, Safe Harbor certification aligns with our global growth strategy," said James DeSanti, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, PharmaVigilant. "The Safe Harbor certification demonstrates PharmaVigilant's ability to provide privacy protection and handle client's personal data in the required manner as set forth by the European Commission's Directive on Data Protection. We consider the recognition of our adherence to Safe Harbor standards to be a validation of our corporate principles and commitment to data security and privacy."

The U.S.-European Safe Harbor Framework was set up in 2000 by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission to diminish uncertainties and provide a streamlined means for U.S. organizations to comply with the European Commission's Directive on Data Protection. The similar U.S.-Swiss framework was added in 2008 by the Commerce Department and the Federal Data Protection and Information Commission of Switzerland to cover that country's own data privacy laws. In order to be certified under the U.S.-EU & Swiss Safe Harbor Framework, PharmaVigilant had to comply with the seven Safe Harbor Principles: Notice, Choice, Onward Transfer, Access, Security, Data Integrity and Enforcement. These Principles enable U.S. companies to more efficiently serve the needs of their clients and minimize delays in the transfer of data.

Organizations that participate in the Safe Harbor programs must adhere to a policy that meets the respective Safe Harbor Frameworks and publicly declare that they do so.
