Pfizer 2004 Science Jamboree Set to Pfascinate.

SANDWICH, England, March 18 /PRNewswire/ --

- Company's 11th Science Jamboree Aims to Educate and Entertain.... With Exploding Custard!

Pfizer has invited 2,400 school children from more than 60 schools in East Kent to its 11th annual Science Jamboree, to be held at the Pfizer Sports and Social Club on the 31st March and 1st April. Over the two days, Year Six pupils from across the region will have the opportunity to participate in 20 exciting scientific activities run by 50 volunteers from Pfizer.

A new feature for the 2004 jamboree is an amazing science sideshow, 'Exploding Custard', which promises some crazy experiments and a lot of audience participation. The other activities include Chemistry In Space, Let There Be Light!, and Fun with CO2. To appreciate just how exciting and stimulating science can be the children will have the opportunity to, among other things, handle a meteorite, mix their own chemicals and watch balloons self-inflate. They will also see that science is about much more than test tubes and Bunsen burners and can involve some very unusual materials - things as different as Mexican pottery and Kiwi fruit!

John Coad, Pfizer's Community and Education Relations Manager, and coordinator of the event said, "The Jamboree is a really fun opportunity for the children to learn just how interesting and exciting science, engineering and technology is. It's all about sparking the childrens' imaginations and getting them interested a field that has made possible so much and influences all of our lives every single day."

Brent Rimmington, a member of Pfizer Global Manufacturing's Chemical Process Improvement Team, and a three-year veteran of the Jamboree, added, "It's difficult not to get caught up with the excitement and enthusiasm of the children. Our experiment this year involves forensic science. I don't want to reveal too much, but I can't wait to see how the children react to it."

Pfizer Inc discovers, develops, manufactures and markets leading prescription medicines for humans and animals, and many of the world's best known consumer brands.
