Petition seeking disqualification of president rejected.

LAHROE -- TheLahore High Court (LHC) has rejected a petition seeking disqualification of president Mamnoon Hussain over his remarks asking Ulema to find a solution to legalise interest.

When a petition filed by Sheikh Mubashar Irfan came up for hearing before LHC bench led by Justice Shahid Wahid on Monday, the petitioner said that the president gave statement to declare interest lawful. The president remains no more eligible for holding the office under constitution after giving the statement. Therefore, he be declared disqualified, the petitioner prayed.

The petitioner also presented a video carrying statement of the president in this regard in the court.

The court remarked that the president enjoys immunity under article 148 of the constitution, therefore, the petition was not maintainable.
