Peter and the Starcatchers.

PETER AND THE STARCATCHERS. Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson. 2004. Read by Jim Dale. 7 cds. 9 hrs. Brilliance Audio. 1-59355-979-8. $87.25. Vinyl; plot, reader notes. J

A rollicking good pirate tale, filled with desert islands, pirate ships, magic stardust, evildoers and mysterious girls. Any pre-teen will love this story of close calls, friendships and nasty adults. The reading is absolutely terrific. Dale knows how to grab a listener by the collar and keep him glued to his seat with his assortment of voices. His narration is in Technicolor and filled with special effects, using no music or tricks other than his vocal facility. The main character is Peter Pan before he was Peter Pan, and the authors have made that story even better by giving Peter even more personality. Adults will enjoy listening to this recording with their kids. Nola Theiss, Sanibel, FL
