Peter Kay's Car Share to return to BBC1 - and there's not long to wait; The popular show is returning for two final episodes.

Peter Kay's Car Share is set to return to TV next month for two new episodes.

A brand new Car Share: Unscripted special will be on BBC1 at 10pm on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7.

The episode is completely improvised.

Then a full second series repeat of Car Share on Monday nights will conclude with a brand new series finale to be screened on the second Bank Holiday, May 28.

Special screenings of the new episode took place at the Blackpool Opera House earlier this month, with Peter Kay making a surprise appearance.

He took to the stage, all in aid of the Lily Foundation, a charity that helps improve the lives of children with Mitochondrial disease, a serious genetic condition which can prove fatal.

Footage of Kay's brief appearance was posted on Twitter, in which Kay can be heard telling the audience: "Thank you very much for supporting the Lily Foundation raising money for mitochondrial disease.

"Very kind of you. I appreciate it. Enjoy the last ever episode of Car Share.

"Don't tell anyone the end. Or tell anyone about any hedgehogs."

Kay told the 2,900-strong crowd: "What we've done is something a little bit different.

"We used to drive around quite a bit and we just wanted to see what would happen if we filmed a whole journey without a script, just making it up."
