Pet of the week... Krillen.

KRILLEN is a Leopard Gecko who lives with his owner, nine-year-old Calum Waddell, mum Mary and dad John in Eaglesham, near Glasgow. They also have a dog called Snowy and a parrot called Buzz.

Where did you get him?

From a shop in Clarkston called Creature Comfort. I knew I wanted to keep a lizard and found out that the Leopard Gecko is a good one for beginners. The shop ordered one for me and it took around a week to arrive. It cost pounds 60.

I got him around November or December last year.

What does he eat?

Large, black desert crickets, ordinary crickets or grass-hoppers. I suppose they can be quite hard to find but Creature Comfort sell them so I get the food there.

Where does the name come from?

Krillen is a common Japanese name, but I don't really know what it means. It's also from a character in my favourite television programme, Dragonballzee, who has six dots on his head.

What does he like doing?

He loves the heat and likes to laze around in the warmth.

How does he behave around people?

He's actually only used to me. I'm the only one who can lift him and unfortunately he doesn't really like anyone else. He feels quite dry and the softest part of him is his stomach. He is quite friendly towards me but he can have his little moments and also tries to bite me sometimes. He doesn't have any teeth, just hard bones, but despite that he can still give you a really good nip.

Does he have any unusual character traits?

He has a log that he plays with. It's for running through but he likes to twist in out of the holes. It's quite funny to watch and he moves quite fast as well.

Who does he look like?

Because he likes lazing around in the warmth I reckon he's a bit like Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach.
