Peru : INIA implements integral modules of alpaquera production in rural communities of Ayacucho.

The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation implemented integral modules of alpaquera production in 20 rural communities in the north and south of the Ayacucho region, located between 3,700 and 4,600 meters above sea level.

The modules have been installed in rural communities that have land and communal livestock, where the use of infrastructure generates a common benefit for all its members. They are also established in demonstration centers of the technologies generated by INIA and other research institutions, to improve the breeding of camelids at profitable and competitive levels. Likewise, the infrastructure delivered will allow producers to cope with the frosts and effects of climate change in the intervened areas.

Each module is made up of a shed, shearing beach, driving sleeve, empadre module, rural slaughterhouse, charqui pond, ahijadero and rotary roost. This infrastructure has been designed and validated by the researchers of the National Program of South American Camelids of the INIA, with the participation of alpaca breeders.

This action is part of the Investment Project called Expansion of technological services through embryo transfer for the recovery of the genetic quality of Alpacas in the regions of Puno and Ayacucho, whose main objective is to recover the genetic quality of the alpacas in those regions applying the technologies generated by INIA, which will benefit more than 11,000 alpacas breeders in these regions.

Through this project, INIA has so far trained and trained 40 alpaquero promoters in the southern and northern areas of Ayacucho, who provide technical assistance to breeders in the rural communities of the region.
