The Milk Marketing Board has announced that GRAHAM FISH, managing director of Dairy Crest Dairies, has joined the Board of Dairy Crest Ltd as an executive director.

Reports tell us that JOHN PADOVAN has accepted the non executive chairmanship of Gardner Merchant. This company, the subject of a management buy-out back in January, hopes to gain a stock market listing next year, and Mr Padovan has been appointed for his City expertise.

BARRY CHAMPION has joined the Board of Liverpool-based Gold Crown Foods as deputy chairman. He will be responsible for strategy, new developments, joint ventures and acquisitions.

At Johnsen and Jorgensen Ltd PETER HALLIDAY is retiring as managing director at the end of this month. His place is being taken by KEVIN BOATWRIGHT, their commercial director.

To coincide with this new appointment, the Dartford depot is being created as a profit centre with STEPHEN MILLS newly appointed as manager.

Albert Fisher Europe has appointed FRITZ RUCH as managing director of its German fresh produce business. Mr Ruch was with The Chiquita Banana Co.

KEITH ANDERSON has been elected President of the Institute of Food Science and Technology. A founder member of the institute, he was with Brooke Bond and Unilever before establishing his own consultancy last year.

Devro, the sausage skin makers, have promoted their technical director, GRAEME ALEXANDER, to become chief executive.

At the Thurne Group of companies Sir IAN MORROW has become group chairman, RICHARD PAYNE has become deputy chairman and WIAN GREEN has become group managing director and chief executive.

Sir Ian is currently chairman of MAI Plc, Mr Green has recently returned from the USA where he was with Corken International and Mr Payne founded the Thurne Group.

We hear that HUGH THOMAS has left the Dalgety Board. At the same time JACK ROWELL has been appointed executive director of consumer foods.

Masteroast Coffee Co Ltd have appointed STEVE CARGILL, who was with Quaker Oats, to head production at their Peterborough factory. Mr Cargill replaces GERALD TURNER who is leaving to pursue another career.

Dr BRIAN J WILSON has been appointed a director at Cherry Valley Farms.

JULIET PARKER has joined Discovery Foods as quality assurance manager. She was with Whitbread Inns.

Anson Packaging Ltd, the plastics thermoformers, have appointed ROB TRAVERS as their sales representative for the North of England and Scotland. Mr Travers was with Label Converters.

KEN BARLOW, Waddington Cartons' sales director, has retired PAUL WILLIAMSON, external affairs director of Cadbury Ltd, has been elected President of the Biscuit Cake Chocolate and Confectionery Alliance.

JIM BROOKS has joined Beiersdorf UK Ltd and will be responsible for their sales throughout Scotland.

GRAHAM RAWLINGS has joined Newtec UK Ltd as sales manager of their expanded sack filling and palletising division. Mr Rawlings was with Richard Simon.

JOHN SALISBURY is to head up OBS Machines' UK sales team to launch Pressindustria and Ross process equipment, that has mixing, emulsification, blending capabilities, into the UK from Italy. At the same time GEOFF BARTON has been recruited to provide sales support and project engineering skills.

EILEEN GALLEN has joined Treats Ice Cream Ltd as their development technologist.

Long Clawson Dairy Ltd have announced the promotion of KIM KETTLE to be their commercial manager.

DUNCAN FORDYOUNG has been promoted to become export sales manager for Entecon

The waste management specialists Orwak Linley Ltd have appointed STUART SYKES as special products manager.

GARETH DAVIES, a partner at Simons and Simons, has been appointed as a member of the Scientific Committee for Designations of the Origin, Geographical Indications and Certificates of Specific Character, for a five-year term.

Aluminum foil container makers William Garfield have promoted BOB THORP to be their general manager.

RICHARD PEARCE has been appointed to the Granwax Products' national sales and technical team. Mr Pearce becomes area representative for the South East of England and will handle the whole range of their cleaning, floorcare and hygiene products.

LEN JONES has joined Carier Bulk Materials Handling Ltd as industrial process sales manager.

As readers may know, Mr Jones is the inventor of the Kleenbelt antispill and antidust conveyor systems that are now manufactured by Carier and marketed jointly by them and Portasilo Ltd.

STEVE JARROLD has been appointed as marketing executive by Denny Bros Printing Ltd. He replaces JAY MILLER who is returning to work in his native USA.

Mr Jarrold was running a graphic design business.

CLIVE RICHARDS, McCormick Glentham purchasing manager at Ellesmere Port, has now been appointed as spice trader. Mr Richard's purchasing responsibilities in ingredients and packaging have been passed to MARK WHALLEY, business support manager at McCormick Glentham, Northampton.

To complete the restructuring of this part of their business, the company have appointed MELANIE HAMMERSLEY as assistant spice trader and MICHELLE GARGENT as sales support coordinator.

Prof PHILIP JAMES, Director of the Rowett Research Institute, has been appointed as a member of the Agricultural and Food Research Council. He succeeds Prof IAN CUNNINGHAM, formerly of the West of Scotland College of Agriculture.

With regret we have to report that ALEC HORSLEY, the founder of Northern Dairies, now Northern Foods, did in mid-June at the age of 90.
