Permeo Delivers Out-of-the-Box Support for Microsoft SharePoint With Unparalleled End Point Information Security and Protection.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Permeo Base5 Only SSL VPN to Combine Secure Remote Access with On Demand Protection Against Remote Threats and Information Leakage

Permeo Technologies, a leading provider of on demand information security solutions, today announced support for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003. Leveraging its unique ability to support rich web-based applications without requiring any desktop client software, Permeo Base5 provides remote users with on demand secure access to Microsoft SharePoint portals while enforcing critical endpoint security and information protection for both managed and unmanaged devices.

The promise of Microsoft SharePoint is to connect people, information, processes and systems for both internal employees and remote users, including telecommuters, business partners and customers. The productivity and cost benefits of providing anywhere access to information, however, can be quickly offset by the increasing threat of endpoint attacks and the risk of confidential information leakage. Traditionally, remote access solutions have focused on user authentication and data encryption. Recently, with the rise of external threats, such as remote access Trojans, key loggers and Internet-based worms, remote access solutions must also provide comprehensive security for endpoints, both corporate-managed and unmanaged devices. Additionally, protection of the information downloaded from corporate portals, such as sales materials, corporate financials and other confidential files, is equally as important as organizations attempt to minimize information and document leakage at the endpoint.

"With the increasing popularity of corporate portals, on demand security for both managed and unmanaged devices is becoming of paramount concern for organizations extending access to sensitive information and corporate applications. The risk of compromise at the end point which can result in stolen user credentials or the loss of confidential company documents is difficult to ignore," stated Scott Crawford, senior analyst with Enterprise Management Associates.

Permeo Base5 delivers an end-to-end solution for Microsoft SharePoint that enables organizations to provide authorized users with a valid user ID and password secure access to the Microsoft SharePoint portal from any endpoint, managed or unmanaged. Permeo Base5's unique architecture, designed for on demand delivery, extends both access and security functions automatically to endpoints without requiring any client software. Permeo Base5 on demand information security and protection capabilities include:

--Behavior-based detection of keyloggers and other spyware to prevent eavesdropping of end-user login credentials

--Host-integrity checking to ensure endpoint compliance with corporate security standards, such as operating system patches, antivirus signature files and the presence of a personal firewall

--Configurable information controls, such as blocking or enabling printing, saving to file, or initiating a print-screen, to prevent inadvertent or malicious loss of corporate information

--Browser session security to encrypt session cache and temporary files, preventing loss of information from data mining spyware

--Portal session clean up to delete browser cache and all temporary files, such as a presentation downloaded and viewed on a kiosk or other unmanaged endpoint, including home PCs used by teleworkers

"While Microsoft SharePoint portals can provide employees, partners and customers with simple, business-critical anytime anywhere access to the information and resources they need, organizations must also be mindful of the risks of information attacks and leakage that can occur as more information flows outside the secure perimeter for display on a variety of remote endpoints," says Mark Elliott, vice president product management for Permeo. "With Permeo Base5 as the front end to Microsoft SharePoint, organizations can not only protect their sensitive information in transit, but also protect information at rest or on display at the endpoint, delivering rich layered defense as part of an overall secure remote access solution."
